Above the old mill in Kildonan bay, there are the ruins of Kildonan Chapel with its ancient Celtic Cross. St. Donnan, an Irish missionary, brought Christianity to the island and founded this important monastery. His efforts didn’t go down too well with the local queen however, and was martyred there in 617, along with his whole monastic community.
